Organisation
Human and Institutional Development Forum (HIDF), Bangalore
Project name
Building Institutional Excellence for social development in India
Grant operationalised
April 2008
Duration
2 years
Grant amount sanctioned
Rs9.08 million

Activities within the grant and expected impact:
The Trust has, through two earlier grants, supported HIDF in developing and offering its Organisational Change Facilitation programme (OCF) - a one-year unique training programme for young professionals for building perspective and competencies in accompanying change processes in development organisations.

The course contains four modules, namely
Development Perspectives
Psychodynamic Perspectives
Organisational Structures
Intervention and Facilitation

The course is followed by a four-month period for project work.

The course is facilitated by a group of four core faculty members, comprising senior professionals in the development sector. Based on its experience of the regional programme, HIDF, through the ongoing grant, is upscaling its reach to cover national level initiatives, based on its work over the last five years, and motivated by the response received through its work in southern India.

The organisation perceives an absence of quality organisations, capable of addressing HID issues in a holistic way, and it is consequently addressing this need through creating hubs for learning and organisational support.

Consequently, during the project period, HIDF is:

Creating three regional hubs for capacity building, through strengthening support organisations located in areas of strategic interest to the Trust
Building professional competencies in human and institutional development as reflected in the availability of 60-80 practitioners as a resource pool, on relevant themes, and through eight fellowships
Providing networking, knowledge building and technical support through seeding a technical support group for the sector

Impact would be assessed, based on the nature of changes brought about by participants of HIDF programmes on their organisations, in terms of their effectiveness in responding to community and internal stakeholders.

The programme would be assessed on following impact indicators:
The number and variety of organisations managing transitions with support from HIDF
80 professionals being available as resources within the organisations, and external impacts, as reflected in the changes initiated by them within the organisations, and capacity-building programmes offered by the professionals in their regional context
Functioning of the resource group
Growth in resource material (case studies, instruments, activities, methodologies) available for OD practitioners in the development sector
