The project is towards supporting MITTRA to expand the reach of the Shikshan-Mittra programme and strengthen its impact on tribal schools and students. Some of the key objectives of the programme are:
To equip the tribal students with life skills and information
To provide avenues for personality development
To facilitate better career options for tribal boys and girls
To facilitate a complementary interaction between the ashram schools / shalas and the community / parents
To develop a sense of ownership about the programme in the ‘school community’ through effective participation of students and teachers in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the programme
To develop direct linkages of the programme with formal / prescribed school curriculum
To provide relevant insights into policy making by establishing appropriate feedback mechanisms.

Key deliverables of the programme are to:
Enable MITTRA reach out to about 50 ashram shalas (out of a total of 117 in the district), which would expose over 6,000 students to life-skills-based education, whilst equipping at least 33 per cent (2,000) of these students with improved agricultural skills that are relevant to the rural context
Initiate linking of the Shikshan-Mittra programme with prescribed school curriculum in around 70 per cent (35) schools
Expose 750 ex-students with information on vocational and livelihood training avenues and support at least 75 dropout youth towards skill training courses
Develop reciprocal relations with the community through Shikshan-Mittra Ashram Shalas, by serving as a demonstration and mutual learning site for the community in at least 70 per cent (35) schools / villages
Engage with the Tribal Development Department and government authorities, for mainstreaming the programme and improving reach and effectiveness of government schemes for higher education.
