Activities within the grant and expected impact:

This project is to develop a working model for enhancing quality of elementary education in some of the most remote areas of Nandurbar district.

Key components are:
Balbhavans: direct implementation and resource support
Resource support to ashram school teachers in language, mathematics and sports
Developing and piloting special programmes.

The outcomes expected are:
Setting up 10 to 12 well functioning Balbhavans in as many villages in Dhadgao block, resulting in enhanced learning levels of about 2,000 primary school-going children (at least 60 per cent scoring over 40 per cent)
Providing resource support to Jeevan Vidya Trust for setting up eight Balbhavans in Nandurbar block, resulting in improved learning levels of about 800 children attending zilla parishad schools (at least 60 per cent scoring over 40 per cent) and 500 children attending Anganwadis receiving developmentally appropriate inputs resulting in cognitive, social and linguistic development
Developing teaching-learning material, providing training to teachers of 10 ashram schools and 9 Jeevan Shalas (residential schools run by a nonprofit organisations in interior villages) resulting in the use of appropriate curriculum, and teaching-learning practices including multi-level teaching
Development of special programmes:
Inputs for 240 student teachers resulting in improved knowledge about subject pedagogy
Sports talent programme for 120 children and 24 teachers from as many schools resulting in students joining Krida Prabodhini (sports academy) and performing at district / state sports competitions
Offering a remedial course in basic arithmetic for middle school children resulting in statistically significant increase in arithmetic ability of about 300 students
Establishing a functional resource centre in Dhadgao, reaching out to around 600 teachers / student teachers and wider education community with gradual increase in its usage.
