Activities within the grant and expected impact:
Phase II of Vidyankura project proposes to work with 22 (100 per cent) tribal residential schools in the district, and all primary schools in three clusters of Chamarajanagar (35 schools), towards improving student learning levels, professional development of teachers, and creating block level educational forums.

The project would engage with elected representatives towards building their capacities for effective decentralised administration of elementary education. Intensive work is proposed with around 5,000 children and 220 teachers from 57 schools / ashramshalas, and 297 School Development and Monitoring Committees (SDMC) members and 30 cluster, block and district-level education functionaries in Chamarajanagar district.

Key components within the proposed project include:
Comprehensive development of two clusters
Development of Ashramshalas (tribal residential schools)
Setting up the Education Resource Group and Network
Collaborative action research with marginalised groups
Material development, advocacy and research

This is expected to result in:
Enhanced learning levels of over 4,833 students from primary schools with about 70 per cent (3,383) attaining grade specific competencies
Capacity building of 220 teachers, reflected in enhancing subject specific understanding, and the successful completion of teacher education course by 80 per cent teachers teaching in Ashramshalas
Setting up well-functioning resource centres in two clusters, where a 20 per cent increase in the number of users is expected in years two and three
Publication of eight new, and ten translated books on education in Kannada
Setting up a voluntary forum for education in blocks
