Activities within
the grant and expected impact:
The Karnataka Education Network is a consortium
of six organisations, namely, Rashtreeya
Vidyalaya Educational Consortium (RVEC),
Volunteers in Service to Education in India
(VSEI), Suvidya, Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samithi
(BGVS), Deenabandhu, and Dhwani, which have
come together with a common vision to create
a community of teachers and educators committed
to educational change through classroom
innovations.
RVEC, a coordinating organisation, promotes
quality research and development in the
field of education, having conducted research
and interventions on curriculum, teacher
education, and examination reform with support
from UNICEF, government of Karnataka, and
Azim Premji Foundation, among others.
RVEC is actively involved in capacity building
of teachers. The Trusts are supporting RVEC
towards enabling the Karnataka Education
Network to strengthen the pre-service primary
teacher education in select D.Ed colleges
of Karnataka with intensive capacity building
of students and lecturers.
The project comprises of following components:
|
|
Capacity building
of D.Ed students and faculty members:
Seventeen workshops would be organised
on content and methodology for 30 D.Ed
students of two D.Ed colleges, and two
training programmes for 100 lecturers
on generation of subject specific resources.
These workshops would facilitate
attitudinal change regarding content
and pedagogy, and demonstrate professionalism
in 75 per cent students. Skills of
resource creation and usage would
be improved among 90 per cent students,
and 75 per cent lecturers.
|
|
|
Study on pre-service
teacher education would focus on syllabus
analysis, curriculum transaction, use
of resources, and perceptions of stakeholders
in six D.Ed colleges as a sample. The
study would help to understand the needs
of D.Ed colleges in Karnataka, and advocate
reforms in pre-service teacher education
based on insights gained. |
|
|
Development of resource centre:
Educational resource centres would
be established at two D.Ed colleges,
and the latter would be motivated
to create and use resources for effective
learning.
These two colleges would regularly
utilise the resource centres. Utilisation
would be increased by 25 per cent
in second year. Students and faculties
would develop at least 40 per cent
resource.
|
|
|
Outreach activities:
A monthly wall magazine on teaching
strategies would be sent to 600 colleges.
Eight exhibitions on subject specific
resource material would be organised
for 1,000 students and 80-100 lecturers,
and an annual symposium would be held
for teacher educators focusing on pre-service
teacher education. |
