Activities within
the grant and expected impact:
The grant provides a one-time three-layer
support to the Womens Studies Centre,
Pune University, in order to:
|
|
Develop curricula
in Womens Studies for the four
new teaching programmes that the Centre
proposes to introduce in English and
Marathi (one from 2008 and the other
three from 2009 onwards). To also develop
the capacities of teachers and students
to engage with these programmes through
the organisation of workshops, institution
of visiting faculty / scholar schemes,
and fellowships for students |
|
|
Produce a range
of materials in Marathi and English
for use in teaching Womens Studies.
Prepare teachers manuals, course
readers, a dictionary of key terms in
Womens Studies, and annotated
bibliographies, which will involve compilations,
original writing and translations, thereby
filling a major lacuna in terms of availability
of relevant materials |
|
|
Build capacities
of students as well as faculty to carry
out research through the organisation
of annual workshops for research scholars
at the national and regional levels,
and through separate research proposal-writing
workshops for faculty, availing of the
library fellowships being proposed by
the Centre |
Key components of the project include:
|
|
Curriculum development
for new UG and PG programmes and capacity
building for teachers to teach these
programmes |
|
|
National outreach
and student capacity enhancement |
|
|
Production of
materials for teaching Womens
Studies in English and Marathi |
|
|
Capacity-building
for researchers (students and faculty) |
The project activity will take place on
three levels, and impact is therefore expected
through each of these levels:
|
|
At the level of
the proposed teaching courses at the
PG and UG levels of the Centre, the
project impact will be gauged in terms
of the quality of the programmes implemented,
their replicability elsewhere, their
impact on the Centres own students,
and the impact on the larger community
of college teachers with whom the Centre
seeks to establish networks |
|
|
The Centre plans
to produce different kinds of materials
for Womens Studies that will be
used by a wide range of students, teachers
and researchers. It is also expected
that these materials will influence
thinking at the disciplinary level,
as well as the discussions taking place
within the Marathi public sphere. The
importance of this aspect of the Centres
proposal would be confirmed if it inspires
similar efforts in other regions |
|
|
The proof of the
expected impact of the proposal to build
research capacities of students and
faculty would be in the increased submission
of quality dissertations, publications
and research proposals |
