Activities within the grant and expected impact
:
Setu is working towards:

Strengthening the current centre-based activities in Ahmedabad

Taking the work forward to the marginalised community exhibiting a high risk for disability, with the long-term objective of reducing the incidence and burden of disability in children through early diagnosis and timely provision of early intervention services.

The twin key components of the project are:

Refining and strengthening the current centre-based approach through continuation of centre-based activities and initiation of intensive networking efforts to establish professional partnerships with pediatricians and mainstream schools in Ahmedabad

Conducting a pilot study for assessing feasibility of implementing a ‘Neighbourhood Centre‘ based approach for provision of services to the marginalised community, residing in Juhapura, Ahmedabad

The project is expected to lead to:

Increase in the detected number of ‘at risk’ children (cases) exhibiting developmental disabilities within their first year

Increase in the number of children availing of early intervention services
Increase in the awareness levels among different stakeholders (medical professionals, education sector, government departments, parents and the community at large)
Improved ability of parents to deal with the child at home (ownership of child’s development)
Enhanced improvement rates of children undergoing one-to-one sessions and small group sessions in the pilot centre
Increase in the enrolment of the children in the schools under inclusion
Increase in the focus and attention of the Government and other stakeholders on the need to address disability among children through advocacy efforts
