Activities within the grant and expected impact:
The project aims to replicate and expand the
successful interventions vis-à-vis
kharif paddy stabilisation and vegetable promotion
across 30 villages (18 old and 12 new adjacent
villages). The old villages of phase I will
serve as resource centres for the proposed
new villages within the cluster. The proposed
project would cover 2,510 households (13,890
individuals) in 30 villages, organised across
three clusters, namely, Kathikund, Dumka Sadar
and Jama, comprising four, eleven and fifteen
villages respectively. As in the earlier phase,
the key objectives of the project are:
Reducing
hunger and increasing food sufficiency
among all households |
Income enhancement
of the households and employment generation.
The proposed activities include:
Promoting
kharif paddy stabilisation strategy
with about 1,750 households |
Promotion of vegetable
cultivation with 1,000 households |
Enhancement of irrigation
facilities for about 2,450 households
Capacity building of community |
Action research and
documentation.
The key activities are:
Enhancement
of paddy yields through replication
of farmers preferred seed varieties
and promotion of KPS strategy as developed
by CInI. |
Promotion of
vegetable cultivation. |
Enhancement
of irrigation facilities. |
Capacity building
of community. |
Research and
documentation. |
The project is expected to lead to doubling
of the paddy yields per hectare from 2 to
4 tons, along with enhanced vegetable production,
thereby generating additional annual income
of about Rs15,000 to Rs20,000 / household.
The baseline for the old villages is already
undertaken and similarly, a baseline for
the 12 new villages would be undertaken
at the inception of the project.
