Activities within
the grant and expected impact:
In the project, RRIDMA is implementing the
Jana Utthan approach in four
districts of south Rajasthan, which would
benefit 43,728 households in 698 villages.
This is a participatory methodology for
identification of livelihood profiles, its
bottlenecks and setting up family-wise strategies
to strengthen livelihoods.
The project undertakes the following activities:
|
|
Livestock Development: RRIDMA
has been running cattle breeding centres
(CBCs) with external support. Here,
farmers are provided with services
of artificial insemination, and proper
management of the crossbreed cows.
As livestock is the second-most important
livelihood option after agriculture,
improvement in the quality of livestock
provides good income to the families.
The Trust support aims to make the
centres self-sustainable. The activity
is implemented in 450 villages, supporting
about 15,000 families. The expected
additional increase in income through
the intervention is about Rs5,000
per annum in the initial year of the
programme, rising to about Rs10,000
per annum at the end of the project.

|
Horticulture
Development: Over the years, RRIDMA
has been successfully implementing the
horticulture development programme.
In this project, 150 villages, covering
about 5,900 families benefit from the
horticulture development programme.
The plantation of the horticulture and
forestry plants is expected to provide
an additional income of about Rs8,000
per annum. |
|
|
Waste Land
Development through Jetropha Plantation:
Jetropha, which is known for its bio-diesel
value is being promoted in wastelands,
wherein no crops are grown. About 2,443
families in 24 villages are being supported
to undertake plantation of Jetropha,
which could give an annual return of
about Rs2,000 to 3,000 per family at
the end of the project period. |
|
|
Vermicompost
Promotion: Promoting organic practices
through applications of organic manure,
such as vermicompost to improve soil
quality, is being undertaken with 500
families in 10 villages, and involves
women members. This is expected to provide
an income of about Rs500 to 1,000 per
member. |
|
|
Strengthening
of Peoples Organisations (POs):
PO linkages with government and
other development agencies, along with
value addition of the agriculture and
horticulture produce and market access
are being carried out through the capacity
building support. The expected impact
of the project, based on the log frame
indicators developed by RRIDMA, would
lead to an increase in annual income
of households from Rs11,000 to Rs23,000. |
