Activities within
the grant and expected impact:
The project is towards enhancing
livelihood resilience and improving quality
of life of 1,025 families (6,179 individuals)
in six tribal dominated villages of Khedbrahma
taluka of Sabarkantha district.
The objectives of the project are to:

sustainable livelihood opportunities

opportunity at village level |

Increase drinking
water, food, fodder and fuel availability

Key activities and the expected impact
are as follows:

Community
capacity building through various training
programmes and exposure visits towards
understanding of improved agriculture
practices, forest management, exposure
visits, etc which would reach out to
over 1,025 households and lead to improved
knowledge, attitude and practices of
community, thus enhancing quality of
life. |

Improved agriculture
and allied activities over an area of
400 acres, covering over 450 households
leading to at least 25 per cent increase
in the crop productivity and average
increase in income by Rs5,000
Rs8,000 through improved agriculture
practices. Further, animal health camps
would help reduce animal mortality to
zero and augment milk production. Finally,
additional 50 acres of land would be
brought under horticulture and through
this, additional income to the tune
of Rs8,000 Rs10,000 is envisaged
from the third year of the project. |

Soil and water
conservation activities such as continuous
contour trenches, farm bunding, earthen
gully plugs, etc across 839 hectares,
thereby enhancing agriculture by as
much as 20 per cent. To sum up, the
income of the project beneficiaries
through the various livelihood interventions
and stabilisation of productivity of
major crops is expected to increase
from the current Rs20,000 per annum
to about Rs30,000 per annum at the end
of the project period. |
