Organisation
Jan Shiksha Evam Vikas Sangathan (PEDO), Dungarpur
Project name
Scaling up, livelihood development and collaborations for significant impact on microfinance in Dungarpur district
Grant operationalised
January 2007
Duration
3 years
Grant amount sanctioned
Rs10.88 million

Activities within the grant and expected impact:
Since 1999, the Trust has been associated with PEDO through two phases of support. During this ongoing third phase of support, PEDO is focusing on:

Increasing the access of 20,000 women members to microfinance services, through the formation of 1,000 new groups. This will take the total programme to 40,000 members across 2,000 groups
Increasing incomes of 8,000 members by Rs10,000 through undertaking various business development services. Another 7,000 members would be helped to increase incomes by Rs3,500
Providing support, and influencing the quality of other programmes, including those of other NPOs, government and banks, through the setting up of a microfinance resource centre

The three components of the project are:
Up-scaling existing groups and federations in Simalwara and Aspur blocks, whilst leveraging support from other programmes for other blocks of Dungarpur. 1,000 new groups would be promoted. Exposure visits, trainings and orientation workshops are being conducted for members. 50 new clusters and eight new federations are being formed. Savings of Rs61.3 million will be mobilised and will be used to generate loans of Rs472 million from banks
Developing community-centred livelihood promotion in which federations are being supported to develop needs-based programmes. PEDO will, through the federations, reach out to about 6,800 members to undertake on-farm improvements such as pigeon pea cultivation, spice and maize cultivation. Another 2,000 members are expected to undertake off-farm / allied activities such as fishery, goat rearing and dairy. It is expected that these will yield an annual income increase of Rs10,000 annually
Creating a micro-finance resource centre, which would conduct open skill-building programmes for NPO staff and community leaders, besides developing training modules, printing material and other resource material
