Activities within
the grant and expected impact:
The project is towards demonstrating
(on a pilot scale) water management for
irrigation through construction of one diversion
weir and nine ring wells that can provide
irrigation to 115 households with the potential
to irrigate about 40 hectares (ha), covering
four villages, namely Amaluma, Dhansiripar,
Doyapur and Ganeshnagar in Dhansiripar block.
In all the four villages, the main source
of cash income is backyard piggery. However,
due to a variety of constraints such as
gap in knowledge about rearing and breeding
sows, poor feeding practices, lack of capital
for buying supplementary feeds, lack of
extension services, prevalence of pig diseases,
etc, pig production remains traditional.
The project would entail introducing better
care and management of pigs and breeding
sows with 40 households. Briefly, the objectives
of the project are:
|
|
Exploring
potential of surface water and ground
water resources for expansion and optimisation
of irrigation leading to enhanced productivity
from agriculture and horticulture(ii)
Enhancing income through promoting better
care and management of pigs |
|
|
Developing participatory
irrigation management concepts and enhancing
farmers capacity on irrigation.
