Professionalizing the Non-profit sector
Human resource development is a key challenge towards good quality grassroots action. Non profit organisations work in a challenging, dynamic and unstructured environment, tackling issues which do not have cut-out solutions. Such conditions demand professional and committed human resources to undertake meaningful action, supported by scrupulous planning, strong internal systems and processes.
Since the inception of systematic grant making at the Trust, this has been a cross cutting and integral stream of work at the Trust, with steady investments in further professionalizing of the sector. While early efforts were largely to bring and retain young professionals to the sector, through support to training institutions and resource agencies, larger, more professionally managed organisations, were encouraged to reach out and mentor smaller organisations and train young people interested in development. Keeping this in mind, the Trust focuses on bringing and retaining young professionals in the sector; creating meaningful options for professional development of mid career personnel/development workers; and institutional strengthening through organisation wide planning and review activities.
